# Fire Temple Walkthrough — Ocarina of Time remake (Switch 2)

Chapter 13 · Adult Link · Dungeon. Updated Nov 1, 2026.

Gorons are locked in cells throughout this volcanic temple, and nearly every one you free hands you the key to go deeper. Halfway through you claim the Megaton Hammer, which smashes open the way to the dragon Volvagia.

**Goal:** Free the imprisoned Gorons, find the Megaton Hammer, and defeat Volvagia.

**Rewards:** Megaton Hammer, Heart Container, Fire Medallion

**Boss:** Volvagia

## 1. Entrance Hall and Darunia

1. (Tip) The Fire Temple holds 8 Small Keys, almost all of them in the cells of trapped Gorons, plus the Dungeon Map, the Compass, the Megaton Hammer, the Boss Key, and 5 Gold Skulltulas. Keep the Goron Tunic on the whole time.
2. Climb down into the entrance hall and shoot down the Fire Keese. Take the unlocked door on the left.
3. Darunia is here, next to a raised platform that leads to the boss door. He leaps across to face Volvagia alone and asks you to free his people.
4. Hop across the platforms to the left to reach a Goron's cell. Step on the floor switch in front of it to open the bars, then open the chest inside.
5. (You get) Small Key 1. The freed Goron mentions a pillar overhead; you'll deal with it much later.
6. (Tip) Platforms on the right side of this room lead to pots that hold fairies. Hookshot across and bottle them if you have room.
7. Go back to the entrance hall and unlock the door on the right.

## 2. The Great Lava Cavern

1. You enter a vast cavern over a sea of lava, crossed by a long bridge. Two Gorons are imprisoned here.
2. Find the cracked section of wall shaped like a doorway. Blow it open with a bomb, step on the switch inside to open the cell, and open the chest.
3. Cross the platforms to the side room on the far side of the cavern and free the second Goron the same way. These two cells give you Small Keys 2 and 3.
4. (Collectible) Play the Song of Time near the blue Time Block by the cavern wall to shift it, then climb to the doorway above. The room beyond has floor tiles that fly at you (keep your shield up), a Like Like, and a Gold Skulltula.
5. (Watch out) Like Likes swallow your Hylian Shield and your tunic. If one eats your Goron Tunic, kill it immediately to get the tunic back before the heat gets you.
6. Make your way to the locked door on the far side of the cavern and unlock it.

## 3. The Rising Block and the Torch Slugs

1. Climb the chain-link fence in this tall room and shoot down the Fire Keese overhead.
2. Push the large block off its ledge into the pit where a jet of fire erupts. The flames lift the block; hop on and ride it up to the next floor. Unlock the door at the top.
3. Two Torch Slugs crawl around the next room. Defeat them, then push the block below the ledge into position so you can climb up.
4. From the top, hit the crystal switch with the Hookshot or a bomb. The flames covering the fence die down for a few seconds; climb quickly to the door before they return.

## 4. The Boulder Maze and the Map

1. This crescent-shaped room is a maze of walls with boulders rolling along its corridors. Watch their paths and slip through behind them.
2. Follow the outer wall to a Goron's cell near the start, then explore the side passages for a second cell. Freeing both gives you Small Keys 4 and 5.
3. (Collectible) Listen for a Gold Skulltula's rattle near a triangular alcove in the maze, then bomb the wall to expose it.
4. Unlock the door near the tip of the crescent. You come out on a narrow ledge high above the great lava cavern.
5. (Watch out) Falling off this ledge drops you back down to an earlier room.
6. Shoot the eye switch on the wall with an arrow. The barred door beside it opens.
7. (You get) The chest inside holds the Dungeon Map.
8. Unlock the other door off the ledge.

## 5. The Fire Wall and the Upper Maze

1. A wall of fire sweeps toward you as you step onto the metal grating. Run along it to the far ledges and climb to the door before the flames catch you.
2. You come out on top of the boulder maze's walls. Hop to the platform with a Torch Slug, defeat it, and bomb the cracked floor there. Climb down into the hole and free the Goron trapped below.
3. Back on top, jump to the platform with a floor switch. Stepping on it opens another cell nearby; free that Goron too. Between them, these two cells give you Small Keys 6 and 7.
4. (Collectible) Optional: near where you came up onto the maze, play the Scarecrow's Song to summon Pierre, Hookshot to him, then Hookshot the target above the doorway. A platform carries you to hidden rooms with two Gold Skulltulas and a chest holding a Huge Rupee that you must reach before a ring of fire closes around it.
5. Unlock the door on the west side of the upper maze.

## 6. The Flame Maze and the Compass

1. This room is a maze of fire walls that flare up when you get close, plus statues that spit flames.
2. (Watch out) Some doors here are fakes that topple onto you. Real doors are set back into the wall; bomb any suspicious door before you try to open it.
3. Work your way to the northeast part of the maze and through the door there.
4. (You get) The chest in this small room holds the Compass.
5. A Goron is trapped in this area with no switch nearby. You'll free him later.
6. Reach the locked door at the far end of the maze and unlock it with the key you have left.
7. In the next area, step on the floor switch to drop a fire wall for a short time, then dash to the alcove. The door there is a fake; bomb it to uncover the real one.

## 7. Flare Dancer and the Megaton Hammer

1. A Flare Dancer, a whirling figure wrapped in fire, waits on a raised platform. It dances around and scatters flames across the floor.
2. When it spins in place, hit it with the Hookshot or a bomb to strip away its fire. The small core underneath runs around the room; chase it and slash it before it reignites.
3. Repeat until it's destroyed. The central platform then rises to the floor above.
4. Climb the grating and hit the crystal switch with a bomb or the Hookshot to shut off the flames on the fence, then climb up.
5. Shoot down the Fire Keese in the room above. Step on the switch to drop the fire around the chest, then sprint along the narrow path and open the chest before the flames return.
6. (You get) You obtain the Megaton Hammer. It smashes stone face blocks and rusty switches, flips some enemies, and is your main weapon against Volvagia.

## 8. Hammer Time: The Last Goron and the Pillar

1. Smash the stone face blocks in your way with the hammer, and drop down through the opening.
2. In the room with Fire Keese, hammer the tall raised block. It collapses into a staircase leading down to a barred door.
3. Carry a crate onto the blue floor switch to hold the door open, and go through.
4. Hammer the next face block to drop down, then hammer the rusty switch to open the way forward.
5. In the Time Block room, play the Song of Time to shift the block, cross with its help, and hammer the rusty switch that opens the cell of the Goron you saw in the flame maze. Drop down to him.
6. (You get) The last caged Goron gives you Small Key 8.
7. Climb back up and hammer the giant face pillar jutting out of the floor, the one the first Goron hinted at. It plunges into Darunia's room below and forms the bridge to the boss door, leaving a hole you can drop through to the first floor.

## 9. The Boss Key

1. In the entrance hall, hammer the statue blocking the door at the back and unlock it with Small Key 8.
2. Fire Keese and Torch Slugs fill the next room; a hammer blow flips a Torch Slug over and leaves it helpless. Defeat everything to open the door.
3. In the next room, floor tiles fly up at you; keep your shield raised. Then defeat the Like Like at the back.
4. (Collectible) A Gold Skulltula is in this room.
5. A second Flare Dancer waits next door. Pound the floor near it with the Megaton Hammer to knock its flames off, then slash the core. A chest with Bombs appears when it falls.
6. Hammer the rusty switch in the next passage to open the final cell. The Goron inside begs you to save Darunia.
7. (You get) Open the large chest for the Boss Key.
8. Return to Darunia's room, cross on the fallen pillar, and open the boss door.

## 10. Boss: Volvagia

1. (Boss) Walk out onto the stone platform in the middle of a lake of lava. It sinks into place, trapping you among nine holes, and Volvagia, a serpentine fire dragon, surges out of one of them.
2. (Boss) Watch for a burst of flame from a hole: that's where Volvagia is about to surface. When its head pops up, hit it with the Megaton Hammer to stun it, then follow up with sword slashes or a hammer jump attack.
3. (Boss) After taking damage, Volvagia sinks back under, then takes flight and circles the arena breathing fire. Stay clear of its path or hang off the platform's edge until it passes. Arrows can hit it while it flies.
4. (Boss) It also flies up into the ceiling and brings down a shower of rocks. Watch the floor for their shadows and move out of the way.
5. (Boss) As it weakens, it sends flames from several holes before surfacing to throw you off. Keep moving and keep every hole in view so you can reach the real one in time.
6. (Watch out) If you fall into the lava, climb back up the side of the platform as fast as you can.
7. (You get) Volvagia collapses into bones. Grab the Heart Container and step into the light.
8. In the Chamber of Sages, Darunia awakens as the Sage of Fire. The Gorons return home.
9. (You get) Darunia gives you the Fire Medallion.
10. (Tip) With the hammer in hand, smash the large boulder near the crater's upper entrance from Death Mountain Trail to find a Great Fairy who doubles your magic meter.

## Gold Skulltulas nearby

- **Room Behind the Time Block** (Fire Temple; Adult Link; needs Song of Time): In the big lava room, head left to the door blocked by a blue block and play the Song of Time so you can climb up and enter. Inside, past the flying floor tiles and a Like Like, defeat the Skulltula.
- **Boss Key Route Room** (Fire Temple; Adult Link; needs Megaton Hammer): Back on the first floor, go through the locked door near the entrance and break through with the Megaton Hammer to reach the rooms leading to the Boss Key. In the room after the Fire Keese and Torch Slugs, deal with the flying tiles and Like Like and kill the Skulltula.
- **Cracked Wall in the Boulder Maze** (Fire Temple; Adult Link; needs Bombs): On the lower level of the boulder maze, find the wall that sounds hollow when struck and blow it open with a bomb. The Skulltula waits in the space behind it.
- **Room Above Pierre's Spot** (Fire Temple; Adult Link; needs Scarecrow's Song, Hookshot): On the upper level of the boulder maze, play the Scarecrow's Song near the door where Navi turns green and Hookshot up to Pierre. Keep climbing to the small room above and defeat the Skulltula inside.
- **Ledge Wall Above the Pierre Climb** (Fire Temple; Adult Link; needs Scarecrow's Song, Hookshot): Continue upward past the previous Skulltula's room to another door. In the room beyond, Hookshot the Skulltula clinging to the wall of a ledge.
