Death Mountain Trail
- #1.1
Go through Kakariko's open gate and start up the trail. Red Tektites hop along the path; time your strikes for the moment they land.
- #1.2
Partway up, a huge boulder seals a cave entrance. That's Dodongo's Cavern, and you can't do anything about it yet.
- #1.3
Bomb Flowers sprout along the trail. They're useful explosives, but you aren't strong enough to pull them up yet.
- #1.4
Where the trail forks, the wide path toward the summit is blocked by rocks. Take the other branch to the cave opening that leads into Goron City.
- Tip#1.5
Come back once you have Bombs or the strength to carry Bomb Flowers; the summit path will open up then.
Goron City
- #2.1
Goron City is a huge cavern carved into the mountain, with several floors circling a central pit. Most of the Gorons are weak with hunger.
- #2.2
Talk to them. They explain that their food comes from Dodongo's Cavern, and that Ganondorf sealed it with a boulder because they refused to hand over the Spiritual Stone of Fire, the Goron's Ruby.
- #2.3
A Goron near the bottom floor tells you their leader, Darunia, has shut himself in his room to wait for a messenger from the royal family.
- #2.4
Darunia's door is on the lowest floor. A mat with the royal family's Triforce symbol lies in front of it.
Darunia
- #3.1
Stand on the mat and play Zelda's Lullaby. The door slides open.
- #3.2
Darunia is in a foul mood. He dismisses you as a royal messenger and insists his troubles are a Goron problem.
- #3.3
Take out your ocarina and play Saria's Song. The tune gets to him, and he can't help breaking into a dance.
- #3.4
In a much better mood, Darunia tells you the Dodongos have overrun the cavern and asks you to clear them out. Do it, and he'll consider giving you the Goron's Ruby.
- You get#3.5
Darunia gives you the Goron's Bracelet, which lets you pull up and carry Bomb Flowers.
Opening Dodongo's Cavern
- #4.1
Head back out to Death Mountain Trail and go to the ledge above the cavern entrance, where a Goron sits next to a Bomb Flower.
- #4.2
Pull up the Bomb Flower and toss it over the low fence so it drops onto the boulder below. The blast clears the way into the cavern.
- Collectible#4.3
Piece of Heart: a Piece of Heart sits on the ledge directly above the cavern entrance. Backflip over the low fence near that Bomb Flower to drop onto it.
- Collectible#4.4
Gold Skulltula: with the boulder gone, a patch of soft soil is exposed by the cavern entrance. Drop a bug from a Bottle on it to make one appear.
- #4.5
Go down to the cavern entrance and head inside.
Goron City Extras
- Tip#5.1
You can light a Deku Stick on the torches in Darunia's room and carry the flame to the torches on the city's lower floors. Lighting them starts the giant urn in the center of the city spinning.
- Tip#5.2
Use fire to set off the Bomb Flowers on the lowest floor and blow open the entrance to the Goron Shop.
- Tip#5.3
On a middle floor, blasting the boulders blocking a tunnel opens a shortcut to the Lost Woods.
- Collectible#5.4
Piece of Heart: once the urn is spinning, drop a Bomb or a lit Bomb Flower into it from the floor above. The prize depends on which face it stops on, and the happy face gives a Piece of Heart.
- Tip#5.5
After Dodongo's Cavern, a Goron rolls nonstop around the city's top floor. Stop him by setting a Bomb in his path, and he rewards you with a bigger Bomb Bag.
- Collectible#5.6
Gold Skulltula: a cracked wall on the trail between Kakariko and the cavern hides one. Come back with Bombs to blow it open.
- Watch out#5.7
Before you enter Dodongo's Cavern, equip the Hylian Shield. Fire inside can burn the Deku Shield away.
