Chapter 11 · Adult Link · Dungeon
Forest Temple Walkthrough
Four Poe Sisters have stolen the flames that power this haunted mansion's elevator, and you must hunt each one down. Twisting corridors, painting puzzles, and the Fairy Bow lead the way to a phantom rider in the basement.
Quick answer
Defeat the four Poe Sisters to restore the elevator, then defeat Phantom Ganon.
- You get
- Fairy Bow, Heart Container, Forest Medallion, Prelude of Light
- Boss
- Phantom Ganon (weak to arrows, then his own energy batted back at him)
- Where
- Forest Temple, Kokiri Forest, Temple of Time
- Length
- 10 parts, 69 steps
- Collectibles
- 5 Gold Skulltulas, 0 Pieces of Heart nearby
Entrance and the First Key
- Tip#1.1
The Forest Temple holds 5 Small Keys, the Dungeon Map, the Compass, the Fairy Bow, the Boss Key, and 5 Gold Skulltulas.
- #1.2
Two Wolfos attack in the overgrown entrance courtyard. Keep one targeted, wait for it to lunge and miss, then strike; hitting a Wolfos from behind does extra damage.
- #1.3
Climb the vines on the right-hand wall, drop onto the tree branches, and follow them across to the far tree. The chest there holds Small Key 1.
- Collectible#1.4
A Gold Skulltula clings to the wall near the vines. Hookshot it from the tree.
- #1.5
Go through the door. A Big Skulltula hangs in the hallway; Hookshot it or slash its soft underside when it turns.
The Poe Sisters and the Stalfos
- #2.1
Entering the main hall triggers a cutscene: the four Poe Sisters, Joelle (red), Beth (blue), Amy (green), and Meg (purple), snatch the flames from the four torches around the central elevator and vanish. The elevator stays dead until you defeat each sister and her flame returns.
- Collectible#2.2
Climb the stairs toward the north door, step onto the ledge to the right, and Hookshot the Gold Skulltula on the wall.
- #2.3
Take the north door. A Blue Bubble floats in the hallway; if it touches you, its curse stops you from using your sword for a while. Block it with your shield or stun it with the Hookshot, then slash it.
- #2.4
The next room seals you in with two Stalfos. Fight them one at a time: keep your shield up against their heavy swings, then counter while they recover.
- You get#2.5
Once both fall, a chest appears with Small Key 2. The pots here hold a fairy.
The Courtyards and the Well
- #3.1
Back in the main hall, find the blue stone block marked with the Door of Time crest in the northwest corner. Play the Song of Time to remove it and open the way to the northwest courtyard.
- #3.2
A Big Deku Baba guards this courtyard, and Skullwalltulas crawl on the vines. Hookshot the Skullwalltulas before you climb, and steer around any you can't reach.
- You get#3.3
Climb the vines to the doorway at the top. In the room beyond, defeat the Blue Bubble and a chest appears with the Dungeon Map.
- #3.4
Take the other door onto a balcony above the northeast courtyard. Hookshot the target above the platform across the gap, then step on the switch there. The water in the courtyard well drains away.
- Collectible#3.5
Drop into the courtyard below. Hookshot the small chest on the island to reach it, and grab the Gold Skulltula nearby.
- You get#3.6
Climb down into the drained well and open the chest at the bottom for Small Key 3. Then make your way back to the main hall.
The Block Puzzle and the Fairy Bow
- #4.1
Unlock the west door of the main hall. Hookshot the Big Skulltula in the hallway beyond.
- #4.2
The next room is a two-story block puzzle. Defeat the Blue Bubble, then push the large block along the floor in the direction of the arrow until it stops against the far wall. Moving it opens the way to a ladder.
- #4.3
Upstairs, push the red block toward the wall. Then climb onto the large block below, jump to the ledge on the right, and push the red block the rest of the way until it locks into place. This gives you a path to the top floor.
- #4.4
At the top, two more Blue Bubbles drift near a silver eye switch above a locked door. Ignore the eye for now and unlock the door. The corridor beyond has been twisted onto its side.
- Watch out#4.5
A Wallmaster lurks in the twisted corridor. When you see a shadow growing on the floor, keep moving. If the Wallmaster's hand catches you, it carries you back to the temple entrance. If it misses, slash it while it's on the ground.
- #4.6
Hop across the platforms to the locked door at the end and unlock it. Stairs lead down into a room with a pit in the middle.
- #4.7
A Stalfos drops in. Defeat it without getting knocked into the pit. A platform then lowers two more Stalfos.
- Watch out#4.8
Finish the second pair close together. If one stays standing too long after the other falls, the fallen one pulls itself back together.
- You get#4.9
Open the big chest for the Fairy Bow. Aim it in first person; it solves most of this temple's puzzles.
Joelle and Beth
- #5.1
Doors on either side of the Bow room lead to stairwells hung with three paintings each. Start with Joelle's stairwell.
- #5.2
Joelle's figure appears in one painting at a time. Shoot her each time she shows up; once all three paintings are hit, she comes out to fight. If you stand too close to a painting, she slips away.
- #5.3
Joelle turns invisible and swoops in swinging her lantern. Keep your shield up while she's hidden, then hit her with arrows, the Hookshot, or your sword when she reappears.
- You get#5.4
Defeating Joelle returns the red flame to the main hall, and a chest appears with Small Key 4.
- #5.5
Pass through the Bow room to the opposite stairwell, draw Beth out of her paintings the same way, and fight her with the same tactics.
- You get#5.6
Beth's defeat returns the blue flame, and a chest appears with the Compass.
- Tip#5.7
A locked door waits at the top of Beth's stairwell. You'll come back through it once you have the Boss Key and the last Small Key.
The Boss Key and the Last Key
- #6.1
Go back to the top of the block room. Stand back and shoot the silver eye switch above the door with an arrow. The twisted corridor rotates back to normal.
- #6.2
Walk through the straightened corridor. A room that was sideways before is now reachable; drop down inside it to a large chest.
- You get#6.3
The chest holds the Boss Key.
- #6.4
Drop through the hole in the floor. Defeat the two Blue Bubbles in the small room below to unlock its door, which opens onto a ledge high in the northwest courtyard.
- Collectible#6.5
A Gold Skulltula clings to the wall near the archway on this ledge. Hookshot it.
- #6.6
Search the alcoves along the ledge for a door tucked out of sight. Behind it lurks a Floormaster, a giant hand that slides along the floor.
- #6.7
Raise your shield when the Floormaster lunges, then slash it. When it splits into three small hands, destroy them quickly, before they merge back together; a spin attack hits several at once.
- You get#6.8
A chest drops with Small Key 5.
- #6.9
Return to the top of the block room and shoot the silver eye again to twist the corridor back. Pass through to the Bow room and climb Beth's stairwell to the locked door.
The Eastern Rooms and Amy
- #7.1
Unlock the door at the top of Beth's stairwell. Another twisted corridor waits, with Green Bubbles circling and a Wallmaster overhead. Walk around the Bubbles and keep moving under the shadow.
- #7.2
Use your last Small Key on the door at the far end.
- #7.3
In this room, platforms carry you back and forth over a pit, and an eye switch on the far wall is sealed in ice. Melt the ice: from a moving platform, fire an arrow through the lit torch so it catches fire and strikes the eye, or cast Din's Fire. Hitting the eye rotates the corridor you just came through.
- #7.4
Go back into the corridor. In its new position, a hole in the floor lets you drop down.
- #7.5
The next room's ceiling crashes down in sections. Gaps in the ceiling keep you safe, so watch the shadows and wait under an opening while it falls. Skulltulas also drop from above. Step on the switch at the end to unlock the far door.
- #7.6
In the next room, shoot the large painting of Amy. It breaks into five blocks that drop to the floor.
- #7.7
Push the blocks together to rebuild Amy's portrait before the timer runs out (about a minute). One of the five pieces doesn't belong in the picture, so leave it out.
- #7.8
When the portrait is complete, Amy appears. Defeat her like her sisters to return the green flame. Take the hallway beyond back to the main hall.
Meg and the Basement
- #8.1
As you enter the main hall, Meg, the last sister, appears and splits into four copies that circle you.
- #8.2
The real Meg spins in place for a moment when the copies appear. Target that one and hit it with an arrow; if you strike a fake, the group simply reforms.
- #8.3
Keep picking out the real Meg until she falls. The purple flame returns, and the elevator in the center of the hall comes back to life.
- #8.4
Ride the elevator down to the basement. Its walls form a ring around you and can be turned.
- #8.5
Push against the wall handles to rotate the room. Each turn lines up different openings; step on the switches you uncover and keep rotating until the barred passage to the boss opens.
- Collectible#8.6
A Big Skulltula guards one of the alcoves, with a Gold Skulltula on the wall behind it.
- #8.7
Follow the passage to the boss door and open it with the Boss Key.
Boss: Phantom Ganon
- Boss#9.1
Six paintings of a gloomy corridor line the arena. Phantom Ganon rides his horse into the pictures, and two riders gallop toward you down two different paintings.
- Boss#9.2
Only one rider is real. The fake turns back just before reaching the frame, while the real one bursts out of the painting. Shoot him with an arrow as he emerges.
- Boss#9.3
If you miss, he charges up and unleashes bolts of lightning that ripple across the floor. Stay away from where they strike and wait for the next round of paintings.
- Boss#9.4
After three arrow hits, his horse disappears and Phantom Ganon takes to the air. He fires energy balls at you.
- Boss#9.5
Swing your sword just as a ball reaches you to send it back. Keep the rally going until he fails to return one; the hit knocks him to the floor.
- Boss#9.6
While he's down, slash him as many times as you can. Sometimes he fires a spread of small energy shots instead of a single ball; shield up or dodge those. Repeat until he's beaten.
- Tip#9.7
An empty bottle swung at his energy balls also bats them back.
- You get#9.8
Collect the Heart Container and step into the blue light.
Aftermath
- #10.1
In the Chamber of Sages, Saria awakens as the Sage of Forest.
- You get#10.2
Saria gives you the Forest Medallion.
- #10.3
You appear in Kokiri Forest, now free of monsters, where the Deku Tree Sprout greets you and tells you more about your own origins.
- #10.4
Travel back to the Temple of Time. As soon as you step inside, Sheik appears.
- You get#10.5
Sheik teaches you the Prelude of Light, which warps you to the Temple of Time from wherever you play it.
